take away (this eclipse)

A simple song written the night after our friend Luke Hollinger passed away.

It’s so crowded, without you here / This empty room, and all my fear,

I’m not afraid, that God’s not real / But that he saw you shaking, didn’t heal.

And that he’ll be greeted by my friend you’ve taken,

I hope you know that’s no consolation,

Seems all you do is take away, and you take the best ones around,

Seems all you do is go away, leave us standing over holes in the ground,

Lord it’d be one hell of a day, for coming back and getting us all,

I have waited I have waited, what more do you want from me now,

On the earth, as in heaven / Your will, that’s your line,

But you’re the one, walking down hallways / Taking our sons, before their time,

That he’ll be greeted by my friend you’ve taken,

I hope you know that’s no consolation,

My Lord, my God, / My Lord, my God

While I stand in this eclipse I’m shaken/ I hope you’ll show me a constellation,

My Lord, my God / My Lord,
